Russ Johnson is a native of Northeast Colorado, where he was raised on a farm and ranch located midway between Sterling, Otis, and Akron. He graduated magna Cum laude (ranked #1 scholastically in the College of Business) from Colorado State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. Russ began his career in 1973 with Touche, Ross and Company, CPA’s in Denver. He became tax partner for Pyle and Associates CPA’s in 1976 and tax manager for McGladrey and pullen, LLP, CPA’s in 1986, both in Sterling. In 1999, along with partners Dennis Schadegg and Mickey Dubs, he opened the firm Johnson and Associates, Cpa’s PC.

Russ continues to be actively involved in the family farm which now has grown to nearly 8,000 acres. This experience in production agriculture provided him a real-world understanding of management and financial issues facing producers and others in agri-business ventures.

Russ was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the first class in the United States to achieve certification as a Personal Finance Specialist in 1986. Russ was a member of the Wells Fargo Bank Board and was a financial advisor to the board for Premier Farm Credit. He was also active in numerous community and professional organizations and is a past elder for the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling.
